Professional MentorshipMrs. Rebecca Parisien was my professional mentor. Mrs. Parisien is a special education teacher at Bismarck Early Childhood Education Program. She plays multiple roles at BECEP as she enhances the lives of children with special needs. I had the opportunity to watch Mrs. Parisien and her team screen children. I also had the opportunity to observe how she handles children exhibiting unexpected behaviors as she is often called to assist when a child is having a tough time in the classroom. One of my favorite experiences was when I was able to witness Mrs. Parisien evaluate a child who could possibly qualify for an Individualized Education Program (IEP). I was also able to attend the meeting where her and her team discussed the results with the family. I had a blast jumping into the world of early childhood special education. Mrs. Parisien taught me a lot about the profession and provided awesome firsthand experiences.

Faculty Mentor
Mrs. Jaylia Prussing has been my professor since my first year at the University of Mary. This year I was privileged to have her as my faculty mentor. Mrs. Prussing has always been a huge motivator for me. She is always challenging me to new experiences that help me grow. She has also inspired my love for special education as her passion is contagious. This semester Mrs. Prussing agreed to be the adviser for an organization I have been working hard to found here at the University of Mary. With her support Special Olympics Club at the University of Mary was finally approved in April. In addition she helped me get a scholarship to help me pay for my special education courses. Her never ending encouragement and support has made my educational journey at the University of Mary a positive one. I am looking forward to working with her in the upcoming year as a professor, adviser, and mentor.
Job Experience
I started working at the Missouri Valley Family YMCA in August 2016 as a youth leader for school-aged care. I had the opportunity to work with children on a daily basis. I was able to create relationships with them and help them grow as individuals. By the end of my first year I was moved to supervisor at a different location, a position I currently hold. This job has definitely helped me develop as a leader and increased my passion for working with children.
